College Scholarship

The Issue

Minority students from low-income families do not have equal access to a college education.

Our Impact

Since 1991, GECAC has helped open doors for students from low-income families by providing scholarships for those who need it most.

The mission of the R. Benjamin Wiley/Walter L. Osborne Minority Scholarship is to encourage and enable ethnic minority students to:

  1. Go to college
  2. Realize the impact they can have on themselves and the community through education.

The amount of the scholarship to be awarded is $1,000, which will be paid directly to the awardee. All completed applications must be postmarked by May 22, 2020.  All applicants will be notified of their selection or denial by June 15, 2020. Money for the scholarships is raised through the GECAC Golf Classic. Great golf for a great cause!

To apply for the R. Benjamin Wiley/Walter L. Osborne Minority Scholarship, the student must meet the following guidelines:

  1. Be an ethnic minority student who is a resident of Erie County Pennsylvania.
  2. Be either a current high school senior or a rising second through fourth-year college student attending school full time working toward a 2 or 4-year post-secondary degree.
  3. If a high school senior, you must currently have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA or have scored at least a 22 on the ACT or 1020 on the SAT.
  4. If a rising second through fourth-year college student, you must have at least a 2.8 cumulative GPA.
  5. Be willing to complete an interview with the scholarship committee. Meet the government's poverty guidelines.
