GECAC Training Institute

GECAC Training Institute (GTI) was licensed by the Department of Education in 1989 and accredited in 1996 by the Accrediting Council of Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS).  

The GECAC Training Institute is devoted to being an effective post-secondary training facility offering students short-term skills training leading to employment and providing graduates with the necessary tools of success to enter the business community as a productive, promotable employee.  The staff and faculty are dedicated to providing a warm, caring atmosphere of mutual respect in order to facilitate and promote confidence, independence, and self-sufficiency.  The administration is dedicated in their pursuit to meet community needs by reassessing current offerings and planning for the future.

Entrance Requirements 

All students must have a high school diploma or GED and pass the entrance exam to be considered for enrollment into any of the diploma programs.  Applications for enrollment may be completed at any time, and Financial Aid is available for students who qualify through federally sponsored Pell grants.  For admissions information contact Eileen Olsen at 451-5610  Ext. 237 or eolsen@gecac.org.

Financial Aid

GECAC Training Institute offers various types of financial aid. Students may be eligible for the Pell Grant, FSEOG Grant, Work Study and/or Federal Direct Student Loans. Students qualify based on household income and family size. The curriculum is designed to prepare the student to work in a variety of positions in the financial services industry such as payroll clerk, bookkeeper, bank teller, accounts payable/receivable clerk, or proof operator.

Culinary Arts Program

The Culinary Arts is designed to provide hands-on experience in food preparation, presentation, calculation, sanitation, and computer application.  Each student in this curriculum must pass the Safety Certification Test for graduation.  After successful completion of all classroom requirements and with recommendation of the faculty, each student will take part in a 200-hour internship program to gain on the job experience.

R. Benjamin Wiley:  Programs of Study 

 

 

 To enroll in the following Adult Education Classes, call 451-5610 Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m.. to 4:30 p.m.
 

 

 

Adult Basic Education

  
 Classes are offered to adults (ages 17 or older) who are reading at a lower level.  Instruction includes reading, writing, math, social studies and science.  Classes are offered Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the R. Benjamin Wiley Learning Center.
  
 

United States Citizenship Classes 

   
 

Classes are offered to adults (ages 17 or older) who are seeking their United States citizenship. 

Classes include citizenship skills, community involvement and learning English.  Classes are held Monday - Friday 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or Monday and Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

   
 

Family Literacy

   
 

The program provides educational, social, and parenting training to all participants. Program activities may be provided in the home and/or an education center. This training will provide the necessary foundation for the parents and children to reach their full learning potential.

Eligible participants must have a "parent" in need of a GED, or additional literacy skills to obtain employment, children between the ages of birth and their eighth birthday and live in the Erie area.

 

General Equivalency Diploma (GED Classes)

   
 

Classes are offered to adults (ages 17 or older) who need assistance preparing for the GED exam. Instruction includes reading, writing, math, social studies and science. Classes are offered, Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or Monday and Wednesday from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. September through May at the R.
