Energy Tips

  1. Wear warmer clothes in layers during the winter and keep the house cooler.
  2. Set your thermostat as low as comfortable in the winter. You can save 3-5% of your heating costs for each degree. A good range is 68 degrees during the day and 55 at night.
  3. Clean or change your furnace filter once a month during the heating season to maintain peak operating efficiency.
  4. Winterize your home . . .
    • Close and lock windows
    • Remove screens and lower storm windows
    • Close off and reduce the warm air flow to unused rooms in the winter.
  5. Arrange furniture away from drafty areas such as large windows or the bottom of stair cases.
  6. Eliminating drafts can reduce energy costs during both the heating and cooling seasons.

Tip For Finding Drafts:

Wet your hand and feel around doors, windows, outlets, baseboards, kitchen cabinets and countertops etc..for drafts. Use caulking and / or weather-stripping to stop these leaks.
